New Paintings at Bicester Village
Artist Charlotte Far has recently brought the sunshine into Villandry with beautifully refreshing paintings. Char was commissioned by us to make a 'poster' scene which she has composed with the influence of the business's colours including the feeling of deliciousness, joy and beauty the cafe brings to people.
Born in Zimbabwe 1958, Char lived in Jamaica, Sicily,Africa, then back to England to boarding school. Studied at Leith's School of Food and Wine then a scholarship to Chelsea Arts School where she stayed briefly excepting exhibitions . Moved to Barcelona and continued to study at La Massana Art School there. Bringing up a family she always had a studio to paint in and worked as an assistant to a furniture and event designer and a photographer.
In 2008 Char had a stroke which paralysed her right hand side. Without hesitation she started drawing with her left hand, which she found equally easy. The results have been exhibited in the hospital she was having rehabilitation in and a competition run by a German pharmaceutical company called 'Pain' from there she had a show in London in April 2013 called 'Stroke of Genius 'exhibiting her right hand and left hand works.. which was highly acclaimed by the Art World.
The iPad pictures, which are hanging in the Villandry Grand Cafe, Bicester show just one part of Char's great talent. Her use of colour and texture are enriched with humour plus perspective, she captures scenes on her journeys and enjoys the classical still life done on a modern medium. 'It is like having a studio wherever you are with the added advantage of not having to clear up afterwards' says Char. They are special Giclée prints on William Turner 380grms paper one of the first in the world of iPad drawings to be enlarged so big.
